Normala familjer i Grekland skär upp sin Vassilopita på nyårsnatten eller nyårsdagen, men här blev det av i förrgår...
I Vassilopitan ("Kungspajen")är det ju ett lyckobringande mynt ingräddat, och i år hamnade myntet precis i mitten av 4 bitar! Kul, eller hur?! Det var "Hemmet", Alex, Marina och jag som får ett lite extra lyckosamt år i år...:)

All normal Greek families has a round "Vassilopita"("Kings pie", the Greek New Year cake) and they also cut it and share the pieces the 1st of January, but we are not normal... so we did it 2 days ago...:)
A small φλουρί ("flourí" - gold coin, not a real one nowadays...) is baked into the cake. You mark the whole cake into pieces and name them - one for the home, one for the year or whatever you like...but for sure each member in the family has one piece - and then you cut it and share the pieces. The one who get the coin in his piece is the lucky one of course!
This year we were 4 lucky ones in our family as you can see...!
This is an old Greek tradition originated from Agios Vassilis (Saint Vassilis, which Santa Claus is called in Greece) who lived at 300 A.D. This historical man was a king, but was called Agios Vassilis by the people because of his generosity. According to the sayings he had coins and gold baked into cakes and gave away to the people.
