Jet set party på/at Skorpios! (and...Greek islands for sale!)

(Scroll down for English)

St. Thomas, 15 milj €
Strongilo ("rund") island, 4½ milj €
St. Athanasios, 1½ milj € (Passa på!)
Tokmakia island, 4 milj €

                                                             ▲Jackie Kennedy-Onassis on Skorpios

Skorpios, the island of Aristotelis Onassis, was sold in April 2013 to the daughter of the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for more than 100 million dollars(the exact sum seems to be a secret...).

The beautiful paradise island was sold by the granddaughter of Onassis, Athina Roussel, even though the shipping magnat had written in his last will and testament that Skorpios should be donated to the Olympic Airways (belonged to Onassis 1956-1974) or to the Greek state in case his inheritors couldn't or didn't want to take care of the island.

Now it's party time on the island for 3 days. The daughter of the billionaire and the owner of the island, Ekaterina Rybolovleva, has her 25th birthday and this has to be celebrated...!

The invited guests (princes, footballplayers and so on) arrived in luxurious yachts or private jet planes. Somehow they forgot to invite me. The Greek singer Paschalis Terzis and the super star Beyoncé will be entertaining the rich and famous guests.

Maybe you also would like to have your own Greek island for your birthday parties? There are a few on sale for a bargain:
St. Thomas, 15 million €
Strongilo ("round") island, 4½ million €
St. Athanasios, 1½ million € (Opportunity!)
Tokmakia island, 4 million €

Have a nice afternoon!

Old black and white photos of Heraklion, Crete!

This post in Swedish: Gamla svartvita fotografier från Heraklion, Kreta

When on Crete this summer I found these lovely old black and white pictures of Heraklion:

Dikeosinis street, 1950. The Lion square is a little bit down on the road to the left and the market street is to the right.

"The Lion Square" because of the lions on the Morosini fountain. The official name of the square is Elefheriou Venizelou. 1950.

The central market is on the street named "1866". Most often called "the market street". This picture is also from 1950.

Another market in Heraklion, long time ago. Anyone knows where this photo was taken?

Dikeosinis street from Platia Eleftherias (Astoria). "Ta dikastiria" - the Courts are in the building to the left. Probably around 1950.

25th August street, 1940. This very busy street became a pedestrian street about 5 years ago.

This picture is taken from the same place as the first, but 20 years earlier, 1930.

This photo is from 1902! The name of the city had recently (1898) been changed to Heraklion from Candia. The beautiful Venetian Basilica of Saint Mark is to the right.
