Lakis Lazopoulos is a very successful screenwriter and actor. He has written lots of plays and played countless roles, also in foreign films.

Since 2004 Lazopoulos has his own TV-show; "Al Tsantiri News" -a satire bulletin, possibly Greece's most popular.

I've heard Lakis Lazopoulos was the top name in Forbes' list of the most powerful and influential people in Greece 2010. I wasn't able to find this list. I do not doubt it, but it would have been fun to put a link to this list.

Now Lakis will make tournaments with his show "Sorry, I'm Greek!"! The performance is in Greek, but will have subtitles in English, German or French depending on the host country.

Yiannis Parios and accordion in the streets!

Today an older man was walking in the streets playing accordion and singing with a really nice and strong voice. In the past you could see this more often, nowadays maybe you can see it once a year at the most. Pity, because i love it!

They walk up and down the streets and coins are being thrown to them from the balconies. Maybe it will be more common again, these days? I wouldn't mind at all!

This street musician was playing and singing an old Greek traditional song which noone really knows who wrote it; S'agapao yiati eiasi oraia" ("I love you because you are nice"). Many famous Greek singers have recorded this song. I like the version of Yiannis Parios the most, here in a slide show with nice pictures from Greece:

Yiannis Parios is a very loved and popular singer in Greece. He sings "Laikó" music which you can say is popular music among the people. Above all, he is famous for his beautiful love songs!

Yiannis' real last name is Varthakouris, but he took Parios as stage name as he is born on the island of Paros (1946).

Parios has been recording at least one album each year since 1971!  Now he will perform at Megaron - The Athens Concert Hall a few days; 14th (not a coincidence that this date has been chosen like the start date!), 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 20th and the 21st of February. The prices of the tickets vary from 9 € (for unemployed, students and more) til 65 € for the best places at the "Grand Tier".

One of my favourites with Yiannis Parios is "Kalimera ti kaneis" with music and lyrics written by Stamatis Spanoudakis. "Good morning, how are you, hope you'll always be well, when you are close to me and when you are far away. Good morning, how are you, I love you so much..." The Shaw Prize in Mathematical Science to Demetrios Christodoulou

The Greek  Dimitris Christodoulou (also written Demetrios Christodoulou)got the Shaw Prize in Mathematical Science the other day, together with the American Richard Hamilton, for their innovative work in Lorentzian and Riemannian geometry and their applications to general relativity and topology.

The Shaw Prize, which also is given in Astronomy and Medicine, is a very important award in Mathematical Science. This price is of course of
great value to Professor Dimitris Christodoulou, especially as he got it together with his friend and colleague Richard Hamilton.

The Chinese Run Run Shaw is a very successful businessman in the film and TV industry. Shaw is now 103 years old!
The Shaw Prize has been given since 2004 and the winner of each field receives a check of one million dollar.

The Shaw Prize is handed over in Hong-Kong.

C. Carathéodory - Einsteins lärare! - The teacher of Einstein was Greek!

Något som många inte vet är att Einsteins lärare var grek.
"Ni ställer ettusentvå frågor, men ingen vill veta vem som var min lärare, vem som visade och öppnade vägen för mig till den högre matematiska vetenskapen och forskningen!

Vill bara tala om att min store lärare var den oöverträffade greken Constantin Carathéodory till vilken vi är skyldiga det mesta."
Det var Einsteins ord i en av sina sista officiella uttalanden före hans död 1955.

Many people don't know that the teacher of Einstein was a Greek mathematician. Einstein said in one of his last speaches that his outstanding teacher was the Greek mathematician Constantin Carathéodory. "We owe him the most" Einstein said.

Constantin also gave Einstein significant help to the theory of relativity.

Constantin Carathéodory (Κωνσταντίνος Καραθεοδωρή), 1873-1950, var en framstående matematiker som gjorde betydande bidrag inom reell- och komplex analys, variationskalkyl och måtteori. Constantin bidrog Einstein med betydande hjälp till relativitetsteorin.

Det finns ett museum till hans ära i Komotini.
