The picturesque village of Plaka on Crete!

Read in Swedish: Lilla pittoreska byn Plaka på Kreta!

Πλάκα (Pláka) is the cutest little village, situated in the Mirabello Bay at north east Crete, just opposite of the famous island of Spinalonga.

Plaka has really nice small shops and many fine fish tavernas. In summertime you see a lot of people (not crowded at all, but actually all sunbeds were taken... there wasn't so many), but in winter there live only about 30 persons.

Sightly beach with beautiful stones, and the view of Spinalonga included. Not the best beach for sunbathing though... Quite difficult to walk into the water, but after a couple of meters there is sand. After 4-5 meters you don't reach the bottom - really deep water and very refreshing swimming!

Old houses in Plaka where many scenes were filmed from the Greek drama television series "Το Νησί" - "The Island", after the award winning bestseller of Victoria Hilslop. The programs were very good and became very popular immediately in Greece.

Scenes were also recorded at the old part of Elounda and of course at Spinalonga.

Octopus to dry!

Boats for Spinalonga are leaving every hour at a cost of 8 € per person, roundtrip (2012). Entrance fee of 2 € on the small island. The normal is that you stay on Spinalonga for one hour, but you can stay longer if you like (if you like to see everything and take a lot of pictures without stress you'll need 2 hours), ask when you buy the ticket.

Lady Gaga is only one of all the celebrities that has been charmed by this picturesque village!

Plaka - a picturesque village well worth a visit!

Distances:
Elounda - Plaka, 5 km
